I'm build my first pc with an AMD FX-6300 and an Asus M5A97 R2.0. The motherboard will most likely need a bios update to support the cpu. How should I do this? I've read that I could do this with a usb flash drive. Is all I need to do just extract the bios update to the flash and insert it before turning on the pc or is there something more to it?
Any advice in general?
Yes, there is a way. Just prepare the usb drive with the latest bios, the funktion is called bios flashback. Just Google it an you should find a good dokomentation on how to do it. I would have provided links, but im on my phone. Sry
Should the flash drive be empty?
You won't need a bios update.
Asus M5A97 R2.0
The R2.0 means that it'll support AMD's latest Piledriver CPUs. This includes your FX-6300.
I hope so, because in the suppliers website it said it supports Phenom II series cpus. It could just be non-updated information about the product, but it could also mean an old bios, since te Phenom II's use an older version.
Bump, any advice if I actualy will have to update the bios? Can't be too safe
Just ask your supplier if it's R2.0 or not R2.0
If it is R2.0, then you don't have to worry.
If it is not, then you better start worrying.
Check the Asus website first. I just installed an Asus MOBO and the Bios was up to date.
It says since bios 1006, what if the board comes with the 208? Or is the factory bios the 1006 one?
