I have an FX-8350 in an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 motherboard, and I'm trying to install the H100. When it boots, the mobo doesn't recognize the H100, even though it's definitely plugged into the CPU fan header. It will only boot into the BIOS and won't let me go any farther. Any suggestions on how to fix?\
you're SURE it's plugged into the CPU FAN not CPU OPT?
Yes. I triple-checked to make sure it's in the correct header.
did you connect the fans to the motherboard? or to the pump?
The pump is connected to the CPU FAN header, and the radiator fans are connected to the pump. And the pump is powered via SATA connection from the PSU.
ah then you need to disable the cpu qfan control in the bios.
You can find that setting, in advanced mode> Monitor.
Grtz Angel ☺
Disabled the Q-fan control (CPU and chassis), and the mobo is still reading a "CPU Fan Error!" at boot and kicking me into the BIOS.
and if you plug the fans directly to the motherboard, instead of to the pump, and enable Qfan control. does it boots then ?
If so then there could be something wrong with the pump. offcourse directly shut it off then.If you not for sure that the pump is spinning! The cpu fan conntector of the H100 pump is a sort dummy, normaly you should connect that dummy to the motherboard connect the fans to the pump, and in the bios you need to disable, Qfan control, then normaly your computer should boot with no error. If something is wrong with the pump, then you could get a fan error. the only way to check this, is connecting the H100 fans directly to the motherboards fan header. using the splitter. if you can hear the pump spinning, and the temps are good in the bios, then could try a bios update, but i think its something with the pump.
Yep, the pump is broken.
I got the computer to boot normally by telling the BIOS to ignore the CPU fan speed. It will idle at under 20C, but as soon as I put any load on the CPU it will shoot up to past 70C and shut the computer down.
Teaches me for getting a refurbished H100.
If you're looking to get a different cooler for your 8350 I can highly recommend the Noctua NH-U14s. I'm able to keep my OC at 4.6ghz @ 1.4v and temps never go over high 40's. I used to use closed loop liquid cooling but after my brother's decided to flood his CPU socket and MOBO I decided to decrease my risk and move to high end air cooling.
Well one of the reasons why i decided to go with Aircooling, just because there is not much that could go wrong with it. They are also more silent.
Ive got a Phanteks PH-TC14PE its the best aircooler you could get, it even beats a H100i.
The only reason I bought the H100 was I found it on sale for $40, so I thought I'd try it and see.
I'll RMA this unit, and if the second one doesn't work as well, I'll just get a refund and save for a better cooler.
yeah just RMA the thing, using corsairs RMA service. you will probably get a new one ☺
