I am looking to buy a new motherboard but I can't decide which motherboard is better suited for my build. I wan't to overclock a fx-6300 CPU and I will only be running one graphics card. I heard that the M5A99FX is a better board for overclocking, but its also €35 more expensive. I won't be needing the extra sata ports or the second PCI-E 16x slot, so the only reason I would buy the M5A99FX over the M5A97 is the extra performance in overclocking.
So what do you guys think, is the board worth the extra bit of money, or should I just buy the m5a97 evo.
well i own a Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0, and its totaly fine. if you run only one Graphics cards. then you dont realy need a 990FX board.
The Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 has the same 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm design, as the M5A99FX pro R2.0.
I run a FX8350 on this board. which i was able to OC to 4.8 max. Since your FX6300 uses less power, you will be totaly fine.
Note: there is a diffrence between the Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 and M5A97 R2.0 keep that in mind.
Thanks for the quick reply, with your advice I am going to go for the M5A97 EVO. I think that the EVO version would be better suited for my build than the standard version, since it has got a 6+2 power phase and some nice extra's like eSata firewire and more USB ports which might come in handy later.
yes indeed, the Asus m5A97 R2.0 only has a 4+2 powerphase digi vrm, thats the diffrence.
And some connectivity things ☺
The EVO is one of the best 970 boards,
and the Msi 970 gaming, is also a nice board. BUt mostly a bit more expensive, because its a newer board with alc1150 audio chip, and killer lan, red/black color.
Yeah you can also get the M5A99X Evo R2.0 which is also very good. I have it and so far I am happy with it ;)
