planning on crossfire and oc it to 4.5-4.8ghz.

Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 for crossfire indeed, reason: the 990FX has 40 pci-e 2.0 lanes. you can run a CF setup at 16X.
M5A97 evo R2.0 only has 2 pci-e 2.0 slots running at X16 and X4.
both cards on 16x or both cards on 8x?
You could also get the Gigabyte GA990FXA UD3, a very good board as well.
I have the m5a99fx and the guys above are right for crossfire go 990fx it gives you x16speed across 2 pcie slot

Top x16 bottom x4 I have 2 7950s on the m5a 97r2 and wish I had the 990 pro. It works but there is a bottleneck. MOBO and cpu( I have a [email protected]) are my next upgrade, I'm waiting to see what AMD does next.
That board will handle anything the cpu can.
