Alright, I'm in a little bit of a pickle. I'm deciding between these two laptops (Y50 and G550JK) as my next gaming notebook. From what I've seen on the internet, it's the better GPU of the Y50 (GTX 860m) but the crappy display of the Y50 against the mediocre GPU of the G550JK (GTX 850m) and a great display. The storage solution doesn't matter because I have a 500gb Samsung 840 evo lying around that I can put into it. So far I'm leaning towards the G550JK because apparently you can overclock the GPU pretty easily on it to be at the same level as the GTX 860, however it's still GDDR3 memory on it. What do you guys think? Which one should I pick?
I would say go with the Asus, but I'm leaning that way mostly because I have a G74SX and have had a very pleasant experience with it
Yeah I was leaning that way too. The build quality and the support for the ROG series is superior in my opinion.
I can definitely vouch for the quality, my laptop is down one of the two fans the cool that CPU/GPU heatsink and it still can keep itself cool (I'm too lazy to put a new fan in :P)
With the Y50 (depending on what model you get), it comes with a external usb dvd drive. You can easily upgrade the storage and ram. Don't like the TN screen? There's a video where you can buy an IPS screen and replace it with the stock Y50 screen.
