ASUS G501VW - Worth upgrading the storage drives?

Hey folks!

I just purchased a ASUS G501VW Laptop that I want to use for a shitload of stuffs, I want to have it as a main tool for Audio creation (through Ableton Live), and a general dev computer (Both more lightweight web development but also more heavy weight game development) And I might even throw in some graphical stuffs into the mix as well (Photoshop, blender, lightroom and such).

Right now my setup has a SSD M2 drive of 120GB and a 1TB HDD, what I was thinking was to get the new Samsung EVO 950 M2 512Gb card for the M2 slot, and perhaps switching the HDD to a 2’5" SSD drive (Is that even possible?) to get a bit faster computer, and being able to get the performance hogs on the M2 drive instead of having it on the much slower HDD (5400rpm).

The question here is, is it worth the upgrade? I’m getting pretty bothered by the HDD noise already, so it would be sweet to get that away with an SSD if possible, and it would be great to do all the heavy production stuff on a faster drive in general!

Other than that I’m pretty happy with the purchase, it isn’t that great when it comes to gaming (my old stationary gives it pretty hard competion for the money with it’s 760GTX 2gb gfx card, and this one has the 960M 4gb one, was hoping for a slight improvement there, but you can’t have it all right?)

Anyways, very thankful for your insights into this, and have a great day!

Cheerz!

Sure upgrading the drives is a pretty good move. Maybe I won't invest that much in an M.2 drive since you won't see a lot of difference in real world use I guess if you take it down a notch. Also you can absolutely put a 2.5" SSD in place of the mechanical drive. The nice thing about drives is that they never get wasted. I mean if you buy another laptop you can always re-purpose them as external drives (I think you can even make portable drives out of M.2) or put them in the new machine.
