Hello all, I recently purchased the Asus Crosshair VII Hero WIFI motherboard. I explicitly got the WIFI version so I could have a good bluetooth experience out of the box. However, the bluetooth does not seem to be working. I am using Ubuntu 18.04.1 with kernel 4.15 and the bluetooth part of GNOME settings seems to indicate that the bluetooth will not even turn on even though the WIFI seems to work fine. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks.
Could you open a terminal and type “sudo lspci”, then copy-paste the output here? The issue could be a lack of driver support in the upstream Linux kernel.
you may just need to enable the “non free” repo so you get some missing firmware. It was plug and play for me but I usually enable the non-free repo.
One of my boards someone had fiddled with the wifi card. Don’t remember if it was this one. I misquoted something as intel when it was realtek in fact.

This is another good point.
Check /etc/apt/sources.list with your favorite text editor and make sure it reads something along the lines of this:

The key parts (in this case) are the words following the URL. They enable different repositories (with their respective names).

In addition, when I run lspci -nnk, it says that the kernel module in use is: r8822be
Maybe it’s a bug with the GNOME’s bluetooth software. Should I try upgrading to kernel 4.18, do you think that would help?

I booted an Antergos live image with a 4.17 series kernel to test the bluetooth and it worked. So It seems like all I need to do is get a newer kernel. I’ll mark this issue as solved. Thank you to everyone who helped.
