Asus Crosshair III -OR- Gigabyte UD5P [Which board

There is only 1 of these 2 motherboards I am close to getting, which one of these following boards would you personally choose and reason?

ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3

GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3

I have already made a decision on one of the two already but I want to see what ya'll think-

I would go for the Gigabyte just for the extra USB ports. And that it has two PCI slots. It also has more SATA ports.

Only thing I like about the Asus is how it looks.

EXACTLY what this guy said.. But the asshat I am I would go with the best looking one x]

Hmmm difficult one. Had both Asus and Gigabyte boards and they are top of the line in my book, but out of them particular boards I would go with the Gigabyte just because it has more expansion with the extra ports and such.

Who has the best tools to max out the chipset ?

if its color youre worried about, you wont see any of the plastic from the slots or the processor once you have the hardware installed. so its really do you like blue or black?

That's a good question and I would like that answered cause I have asked that myself.

Yeah I figured as much, I like the ASUS dark brown coco-mix board because it's like my hair, looks black but it's dark brown.Â

My original choice before posting this thread was the Gigabyte UD5P for a couple reasons:

-The layout is impressive.
-You get 10 SATA ports! All facing the side!
-The heatsinks are sexi to look at.
-The 2oz copper board for better cooling/overclocking.
-I know I'm getting quality with gigabyte.
-All the connections I need plus a e-sata and molex power pci-e card.
-That molex power port creates possibilites. (External Drives and modding)
-Dual Bios, I am a big fan of PLAN B.
-Dual ethernet (I don't care much for this since it's not a big deal to have, to my knowledge)
-This board has firewire headers (this is a must)
-Supports DDR3
-Supports AM3 Phenom 955
-7.1 Channel HD Audio
-Very nice I/O shield plate

There's a lot of similarities between the two, and the more that I look at them the better gigabyte looks. I dunno about yall but I don't like that "Clear CMOS" button right there on the outside for anyone to press.

Is their something ASUS is doing better then Gigabyte?

Omg i rated for ASUS but i wanted to rate for Gigabyte, what a retard i am. Id go with the Gigabyte one as i own a X58 board from Gigabyte and atm it has been rock solid and OC well.

I agree that's pretty damn retarded. You can always fix your mistakes tho, try this: take your clock and turn back the dial to when you were posting, problem solved.Â

Btw what's your highest overclock on that X58?

I dont like GB becuase my first board from them was extremely unstable.

That could of been an isolated issue with one or more of your components.

Iv'e persionally had quite a few GB boards and none of them game me any problems and were great for overclocking.

i have a gigabyte board, and i love it.... it gave me a bit of trouble because stock bios couldn't recognize my 955be, but i flashed it and it has been fine ever since.... i love all the usb ports on it.... (and in my case with the cold cathodes on it looks almost black.... so yay)

Turns out all of my parts were fine, e7200 was in perfect condition, 8800GTS had no faults, RAM was memtested and used on friend's rig without any memory faults, HDD was fine, 600W psu was more than enough for the whole thing. I'm pretty sure it was a loose or or bad northbridge heatsink, because everytime ram usage spiked up, the rig would freeze instantly.

The Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P IMHO because it is better in alot of ways, the only thing better about the ASUS board is that sweet ass sound card, and the color IMHO

Gigabyte boards for me most of the time OC higher then ASUS boards, and sometimes seem more stable, but most people prefer ASUS, its your choice really

There are 2 things I like about the ASUS board that I like over Gigabyte.

1_/) Asus has 3 usb headers + a firewire -vs- Gigabyte has 2 usb headers + firewire. I need a 3rd header for my card reader. Even tho i can spend $15 on a usb card with a header on it and still pay less for the ud5p, I just don't like that fact I have to do that.

2_/) The sound card, I never bought a sound card, is there a big difference?

The voting is now at 50 / 50...if you're voting at least say why, share your experience with the hardware, the tech support. I was mainly looking to find out about Asus.

ASUS CrossHair III formula Review this review shows the ASUS mobo up against the Gigabyte mobo and you will notice the difference with a sound card as opsied to on board sound.  http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/crosshair_iii/

The card that comes with the asus still isnt close to a real dedicated soundcard..
And as most of the other x58 boards have a dedicated sound card, you might wanna wait before deciding motherboard...

...what are you hearing?Â

....6gb sata....
