Very nice looking board again. I noticed that they have ditched the traditional 12K Nichicon gold output capacitors on this and the Extreme 4 board, for the more traditional black caps, which fit a bit nicer with the overall asthetic design of the board. Allthough i personally really liked those Nichicon 12K caps. For the rest i dont really see much to complain about it, for its price point. The only miss maybe the B-clock generator, which the Gigabyte / Aora Gaming 5 board does come with.
As soon as i have more information on the vrm circuitry i will update it in a post here.
@wendell do you still have this board by hand? Could you maybe check out if the pwm controller on this board is maybe the ISL95856? You might also find this pwm on the Aorus Gigabyte Gaming 5.
The ISL95856 and the IR35201 are the most commonly used pwm´s on the Z170 platform.
I started to pull the heatsinks, the asrock boards were the first ones I got, but it was really stuck to the board and I didnt want to break it before doing cool stuff with them in the future. Will try to take a peek. I emailed every vendor about their implementation but no one had specifics for me.
Nice let me know if you find out anything. If its too much of a hassle, then i will see if i can find it out myself.
I allready found out that the ISL95866 4+3 phase basicly a slightly newer, version of the ISL95856 pwm is used on a couple of Z270 midrange midrange boards. Like Aorus / Gigabyte Z270X Gaming 7, and probably also Gaming 5. I will update if i know more. Maybe i should make a list some day.
great videos love how in depth you go into each board and its physical and software based options, but i died laughing when you kinda scooted a stool around trying to show floor it
