ASRock X399 Taichi vs Fatal1ty differences?

Clear out something for me.

Are these two boards identical apart from the 10Gb NIC and the looks? That is what some YT channels are implying.

I am on the lookout for an X399 board that will not cost an arm and a leg.

I already have 10Gb SFP+ Mellanox cards so no need for RJ54.

Do I miss out on anything choosing the Taichi over the Fatal1ty?

Is there any reason to look to Gigabyte or MSI instead?

The reason to look at MSI is if you want to OC the 2990WX, cause the MEG by MSI is a VRM monster.

The way I am looking at them - pretty much yes.

Woah. They look literally the same. The bottom one appears to have a bigger zif then the top one Or maybe it’s just a play on shadows.

Asrock like to do that thing, where they design one PCB and make a couple models out of it - one with less features, one with more…
The same as B350 Pro4 and B350 Gaming K4…

Also the CMOS batteries are tilted towards opposite directions.

Damn, those boards look exactly the same!

I own the X399 Taichi and I had considered the F1tal1ty but I came to the conclusion that the only difference is the 10 GBps NIC. I am able to buy a 10 GBps add-on card separately and the overall price will still be lower than the Fatal1ty. I thing that these two Asrock motherboards are really good and I am very happy with my purchase.

The only issue I have is that the computer doesn’t come back from sleep. I am in contact with the Asrock support about that. I haven’t found the problem yet but I don’t think that the motherboard is the culprit. Contrary to what I read on other forums and reviews pages about Asrock, I would say that the service is ok.

I had the exact same thought, however, after mulling it over, I decided that I wanted the 10gb card integrated to free up future uses for all the PCIe slots. I saw it as a waste of the lanes to tie them up with a card that frankly doesn’t utilize the full bandwidth of the available slots. To each his own, but I’m also happy with the fatal1ty board. Good luck to the OP in your search.

According to user chew* over on OCN, who is in direct contact with ASRock BIOS and marketing teams, these are the exact same boards save for these features the Fatal1ty has over the Taichi:

  • 10GBe RJ45 connector on Fatal1ty
  • COM / Serial Port
  • Creative Sound Blaster audio software
  • Southbridge heatsink design & overall color scheme

Perfect! That was exactly what I was looking for!

Seems like the Taichi is the board for me

THe biggest most significant difference is the 10Gb/e like mentioned above.
For the rest appart from the design, they are totally identical.
Same vrm design etc.
If you dont really need 10Gb/e, then paying extra for the Fatality isnt really worth it imo.

AFAIK, the 10GbE chip doesn’t even support RDMA, therefore it’s performance probably isn’t as good as it could be at 10Gbit/s. ;3
