AsRock Rack B650D4U

I have been looking for a server motherboard and this is in my price range, but I ran across links where this board craps out. Has anyone here for more than a year without problems? I don’t want to buy a board and have problems like in the link below. I am wanting to run Proxmox on it.

Thanks

There have been reports about failures and the slow BIOS updates aren’t very encouraging. If you can live without IPMI Asus ProArt X670E-CREATOR have proven to be a reliable board and popular here on the forums. If you want a cheaper one Asus ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi might be of interest, both support ECC memory (if that’s a requirement) and uses Intel onboard LAN. Be aware of PCIe sharing on B650* boards and both also supports splitting 16x PCIe slots into 8x.

I don’t really need IPMI, so I can get by without it. This will be a home server, mostly for tinkering with. Except for my Pi4, everything else is old. Wanting something newer with more power.

Thanks

If you don’t need “all” PCIe lanes the cheaper B650E-E will do fine, you might even want to look at the ROG Strix B650E-F in that regard. I’m not sure what CPU you’re looking at but I would recommend sticking to the 65W ones unless you have specific requirements.

I am wanting to run several VM’s. I need to figure out what way to go.
Thanks for your help.
