ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard

Thinking about picking this up, it's only about 140 bucks, right now i have the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0, but the onboard network is dead and i destroyed the only usb3 header on the motherboard. also some of the usb ports are preventing the OS from loading when they are occupied, i imagine they are damaged in some way. Anyone have experience with this or other Asrock motherboard?

I had a p45de and a 4coredualsata.

ASRock rocks

Depending on if you an enthusiast overclocker or not?

If you are only a gamer, then this mobo is realy nice for its price point, it has some very nice feutures towards gamers, like the killer nik E2200, m2- sata, and the alc1150 audio chip with 600ohm headphone amp.

However, for overclocking this board is not the best choice, the problem with this particular board, wenn you wanne overclock, passed 4.5 ghz, this board is starting to overheat. the vrm´s run upto 80 degrees, and this will causing, voltage throttle. since there is no LLC option in the bios to correct those voltage drops, this will automaticly result in a cpu throttle.

thank you, that's exactly what i wanted to know. what would you recommend for an OC board? (besides the M5A99FX)

  1. Asus crosshair V formula Z 8+2 powerphase digi vrm, intel lan
  2. Asrock 990FX Extreme 9  12+2 powerphase digi vrm, intel lan
  3. Asrock 990FX Fatal1ty professional: 12+2 powerphase digi vrm (probably hard to find)
  4. Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2.0  8+2 powerphase digi vrm,  (realtek lan!)

The crosshair is offcourse  the top of the line, but yeah they are pricy.

The Sabertooth and the Asrock extreme 9 are arround the same price. on which i personaly think in terms of feutures the extreme 9 is more board for the money.

8.2GHZ FX8350 on LN2 with Asrock 990FX extreme 9, amazing lol ☺

7.9GHZ on the asus formula.

thanks mistery

Be careful with the extreme 9. I had two and both blew a vrm overclocking a 8320 to 4.7 ghz (took my ram and cpu with it both times).  A couple of guys in the amd forums over at overclock.net had the same problems. Crosshair v formula z all the way for me.

oopps! double post. Crap!

fixed.

yeah i readed about that, but it does sounds abit strange to me, but they probably had bad luck. the Asrock extreme 9 should be an great overclocking board.

I do agree that the Asus Crosshair V Formula Z is better overall, shielded audio + improved audio software, best overclockers friendly bios etc etc. This makes the crosshair for me personaly the best board. But yeah you have to pay the price for it. The most annoying thing doe is, that in the Netherlands there is only €5 diffrence between the extreme 9 and the Crosshair v Formula Z.

So yeah i gonne grab the Asus my self. But in the US the price diffrence is huge..
