I was idly wondering if there was a link between ASROCK and ASUS. Both are Taiwanese, ASROCK has Ted Hzu as 'the boss' whilst ASUS has a Ted Hzu as a founder member (same guy?), both have PEGAsomething as the parent company Pegatron for ASROCK Pegasus for ASUS.
Looking about the web I get the impression that ASUS were more expensive but now they compete on price and ASROCK were of lower quality but this has now improved indeed they produce some of the finest boards on the market, again this is just my imprresion. Is it still regarded as 'cheaping out' to use an ASROCK board rather than an ASUS one?
The only thing is that ASUS produces the high end hardware and ASROCK produce the lower end. As they are owned by the same people they cover both high end low-end parts.
I wouldn't say it would be 'cheaping out' if you bought an ASROCK board. But you will not be able to obtain a higher OC or maybe not at all (if that is what you want to do).
You may also miss out on some features with an ASROCK board. Eg. Built in wireless.
This was answered by an ASUS representative, JJ, in a previous Tek video. They are two different competing companies that source their motherboards from the same place.
ASRock started as a spin-off of Asus, to bring budget orientated motherboards to market in a - successful - effort to kill competition from ABit. In the beginning, ASRock was to Asus what Kleber is to Michelin, they marketed last year's models at an affordable price. In recent years, ASRock has focused on market segments that are also served by Asus, and the two companies have started to compete. Both companies use exactly the same machines and parts to manufacture their products, but ASRock now uses the same technology and specs than Asus, but implements it's own design tweaks.
