Asrock 990Fx Extreme3 won't post [Closed]

Update

So the motherboard won't work with my cpu so I got a full refund for the motherboard, kind of annoyed at asrock for putting up a compatibility list that isn't correct. Will have to save up for new cpu and try to get both at the same time once I get some money.

Hello all,

seem to be having some issues with posting my new Asrock 990Fx Extreme 3 mobo,
which I was rather looking forward to after a stressful week.

I have done quite a few builds before for friends and this is the first time i've splurged on myself
 and something has gone wrong.
This is an upgrade of an old rig and doing this part by part and all old parts were working fine last night

specs:

Asrock 990Fx Extreme 3, Running Bios: 1.70 - 15A (New)

AMD Athlon II X4 645 (AM3 platform) (Old)

Strontium 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ (1 stick) (Old)

Gigabyte HD7750 1GB DDR5 (Old)

ThermalTake Smart 750W (Old)

1st attempt: had a hdd plugged in, no visual.

2nd: took hdd out, no visual.

3rd: plugged in speaker, no beeps, no visual.

4th: no Ram, 3 Long beeps, no visual.

5th: no gpu, no beeps, no visual. -.-

6th: tried VGA instead of hdmi, no beeps, no visual.

7th: Cleared CMOS, used VGA, no beeps, no visual

8th: removed everything except cpu, put everything back in, no beeps no visual

getting tad fustrated now and would appreciate some help :)
Don't want to take long train to return it. (I live in melbourne)

note: after each failed post, psu was turned off for >10secs before trying again

Thank-you :D

RMA? :|

unplug the cpu from the motherboard and see if there are any bend pins if so its that. if not rma it

Had quick look and no bent pins, was very careful with removal and insertion, never forced it in, always lightly dropped in like a glove.

tried posting again but avast no such luck.

guess I will have to return it. sigh.

Do the fans spin up when you turn on the PC? The fact that you got no beep might imply the CPU power cable isn't connected, or isn't connected properly. If it is properly connected, try reseating it.

all fans come up fine and at usual speeds.

Biting the bullet tomorrow and will update soon

Alrighty folks,

Went back to computer shop, successfully got an rma after long discussion, wanted me to bring in all my parts and wait 4 weeks. pbth not happening with a uni student XD

plugged everything back in praying but guess what, zip. nothing!

decided to pull out my old previous Gigabyte board and did my old set up and it all turned on and worked like a dream since the evening i tore it apart last week, so no issues with any of the components.

2 things to note:

1. this old board only requires a 4pin cpu power, the new asrock one requires 8, so haven't used all 8 pins before but they look fine from close inspection

2. the guy at the shop was rather concerned about using an old am3 cpu in an am3/am3+ board and didn't believe me with the compatibility. double checked the website and it seems fine.

siiiiiiiigh

help?

any other suggestions for a new am3+ cpu? i was thinking 8350 and going to be water cooled one day

and any other cheap am3+ motherboards that have 2 pci-e x16 slots that actually run at x16?  ~$100AUD?

 thanks :)

Your choice of CPU cooler.  I prefer air coolers since there's usually no pump noise and are usually cheaper.  Hyper 212X for budget, and Noctua NH-D14 for epic cooling.

Thanks :)

going in on monday for "Tech support" hopefully the guy will be able to help or at least find out which item I need to upgrade next
