So ASIO is going across Australian Universities attempting to find a large numer of candidates to work in their secret intelligence sector for what is quite obviously the upcoming lare-scale data retention and analysis schemes.
My question is: What educated IT guy in their right mind would actually be all for this? Literally everyone in the industry knows how damaging this is going to be, are there actually enough rotten eggs out there to support this?
My final thought: This is a great opportunity for someone to be the next Edward Snowden - and an opening for those who care for our protection and privacy to have some force inside of the system to change the ways things might end up being. If I was an Australian Citizen (Which I'm glad I'm not considering the damage the Government is doing to human rights and freedoms) - I would most certainly take this role most importantly to actually help the push for protection from the inside, considering that no volume of bitching and moaning with protests is going to change anything - especially with such an uninformed general public.
ASIO Careers
You will probably find ASIO has been canvasing university applicants for a while, I can remember ASIO embarking on a similar recruitment programme in the early-1980's.
ASIO are essentially pursuing people with multifaceted skills, and those skills will be easily sourced from those in higher-education institutions like our Aussie universities.
Financial auditing, and advanced computer competencies would be favourable skills to possess if seeking employment with ASIO or even the Australian Federal Police (AFP) {our Aussie version of the FBI}
I totally agree, there are a lot of very talented people that have a massive range of understanding of many different skillsets (myself included) that attend my Uni - the value there is huge when it comes to ASIO needing people who can think outside of the box. It's a letdown that only Citizens are allowed to apply, there is a larger number of people there without citizenship that would be far more capable of the job at hand. (Begin racism/whatever rant about our government here) :P
Update:
"A reminder that a team from ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence
Organisation) will be providing information about Graduate Programs for
this year. ASIO will induct an unusually high number of graduates this
year (200).
This is a great opportunity to learn about graduate opportunities, employer
expectations, and graduate programs, even if you aren't specifically
interested in ASIO.ASIO is also bringing a panel of 5 IT employees to provide information regarding the different IT areas within ASIO.
ASIO have requested us to pass on the following requirements to students attending:
- Mobile phones must be turned off before entering the lecture theatre
- No photos, video, or audio can be recorded from the session
- The session is for Australian Citizens only"
Turns out that apparently what our government is doing to us shouldn't be public knowledge. Top work, Aus Government.
People who are desperate for money will do whatever it takes.
