thunderbolt into keyboard + mouse + high-end monitor is neat
yet the problem with noise is nearly gone for me after upgrading to quality fans

Oh I couldnt care less about the noise... Never understood the gripe with noise :D

Seems pointless tbh. And I love having my PC where I can see it. I'm old school like that.

As much as I want to knock Linus for the complete waste of resources and overkill here, I can't. This is pretty cool and actually something I have been wanting to do for a long time. My idea was to mount all of my systems in the basement (where it is always nice and cool) and run the IO up to the first floor through wall plates. Right now, anytime I play a game the whole underside of my desk heats up. During a weekend gaming binge my whole office will get about 6 degrees warmer than the rest of my house. I doubt I will ever do this. As much as I love computers, I always find a more deserving place for my money.

If you thought he couldnt get any dumber, well think again.

He builds £2000 PC for his wife and she is going to use it for Facebook.

What is so dumb about it? Is it risky, yes. Is it advisable, no, but is it dumb? It has a practical application, potential risks are thought of, precautions are made and it actually works.

Bit sexest considering it has been stated that she does more than be Linus's "Trophy wife" Including but not limited to Video work and gaming. Plus it would probably double as the kids gaming machine as they grow up too.

I do get what you mean. Considering the risk, it would be dumb for you and me to try this, but if the card has no value to Linus, it makes no difference what market value it has. Actually the card has more value to him becoming a DIY video than just sitting on a shelf amongst all the other titans doing nothing.

He has a point. Assuming $1 per 1000 views (General rule). He made over $500 from this video excluding sponsorship's. Considering Linus doesn't pay for a large proportion of the tech on his show, He came out better off.

Apparently you've never watched me mod if you think that's bad.

This is one of my favorite projects on their channel. It is something I've mimicked although I didn't achieve as clean of a result as one thunderbolt cable. I run a long USB and displayport cable. I've looked into going thunderbolt but it didn't seem like something I could add unless the motherboard had a thunderbolt header. There aren't any boards I want that also support TB so this is probably a no go from start for me. On top of that, the TB card must support passthrough to a KVM guest and run flawlessly under Linux. I'm thinking one or more of these conditions will fail.

I'd rather spend all that money on 3 4k displays

What to not be able to drive, take up a massive amount of space and have eye strain?

Side note IDK why everyone bitches about Linus's content. It's mostly good. WAN show is good. TBH I'm liking their stuff more than TS lately....
