I want to play some racing games and if it comes out GTA5.
But my problem is choosing one. What do you think of these cards:
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming 2G
ASUS Radeon R9 270X DC2T, 2048 MB DDR5, DP, HDMI
ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti Direct CU II DC2O, 2048 MB DDR5, PCIe 3.0
What I find interesting on the AMD is Mantel.
Does anyone know if I can run the audio over one of the graphics cards and the onboard sound at the same time? I have my tv connected over a 30 feet HDMI cable and a wireless mouse and keyboard work over the distance as well, what I just don't like is to switch the sound from the speaker out to the hdmi every time, when I use both displays at the same time.
I know it will increase the cost of the card a little but I recommend looking at 3gb cards. Seems games will start wanting the higher memory.
I've seen a 7950 3gb for about $250 at besbuy, that will still max games like BF4. I know it's a bit above your budget but hopefully the general info might help.
For that price the 7950 is the best price and the R9 280x is a more expensive 7970(literally the same card just a different name), so if you can swing it, I would grab the 7950 or if you can find a sale or are in America and wait until Black Friday and try to grab one for cheap. A 7950 is comparable to the nVidia 770 and the 7970 beats the both of them. So I would grab the HIS IceQ X2 7950/7970 for that price range.
Both cards run the same drivers from AMD, and the AMD drivers as of late are quite good. Just pick the better performing one, I'm sure there are benchmarks out there for both.
