We can finally share news about the experimental client ports to Linux and Mac. They are being prepared for public beta release very soon (shortly after update 1.50). We consider them a complementary service to owners of the primary Windows version, so anyone owning that version, will also have access to the ports. It should be pointed out that there are some significant limitations, which we'll detail along with the start of the beta. There is also a possibility that these ports will never graduate from beta, but we will be evaluating their popularity and usability for some time. Keep an eye on our information channels to be notified about the beta starting!
Awesome news will keep an eye out
I have never played arma 3, so I am hoping I will not notice the limitations.
This is great though. As far as I know this is going to be the first realistic shooter ported to linux.
I haven't played ArmA in a little while, and i never expected them do do a Linux port at all. They always focused on Windows (even on the server side) so this is cool news. :D
We all need to hop on it ASAP when it releases so that we can show BI that it is worth doing it.
And, BI has has Linux server clients since Arma 2 @Eden
Nice!!!
As soon as it's available I'll be on it myself. Gonna try not running windows at all on the new build so this is exciting.
I know they got them for one of them at least, but my experience used to be that they were very windows focused, so it never worked as well. (this may have changed :) ). I know there started looking at linux servers as people kept asking for them. So its good to see them continuing to expand.
hopefully, the linux community will rise to the occasion and show BI that we want their game on Linux. Also that it would get BI to consider adding support for Vulkan.
Well vice versa as well.
BI needs to rise to the occasion and really make a solid port.
I am really glad to see that this will actually be a beta. Hopefully by the time the port is finished, we will have a really nice game.
well, right now BI is outsourcing to a third party company for the experimental ports. But, if there is enough support shown for a Linux copy, they may hire more Linux devs. I think we Linux gamers need to spread the word and get gamers geared to do this
Maybe the Linux stuff is also coming from the Windows 10 spying stuff. ^_^
