So the Arma 3 campain is out! Well at least the first part.. They're releasing the campain in parts.
So far I'm really enjoying it, the music really adds to it. While you're running through the woods trying to meet up with other people right after your squad leader gets blown up and calm music is playing.. It really adds to it.
I have never given Arma a chance. I have Arma 2 for Dayz, and have played DayZ for about an hour. But I have never looked into the core game. How would you rate the game against its primary competitors? AKA Battlefield, CoD.
Arma is honestly in a different world to say Battlefield. I don't think I could call them direct competitors with a straight face. I don't mean that in a snooty sort of way. It's just like one is pop corn and the other one is a steak with vegetables, potatoes and gravy. I like both, they have times and places where they shine, but I know which ones superior if you have to compare them.
It's the community driven addons/mods, along with the support the dev offers to that community, that adds the most. I mean the amount of content out there is staggering really. The scale possible in Arma along with the satisfying part-way simulation just makes it an unbeatable experience for me.
Don't get me wrong, I pumped huge hours into Bad Company 2, BF3, and maybe BF4 in the next while if I can pick it up. It's just that it's much more of a sit down and have some light fun game. Arma for me is a sit down to an evening of 'serious fun' (satisfying for the effort yet still taken as a game) so to speak.
Small edit: To conclude enjoy both. They fill out different areas of the video game spectrum and are both worth your time in my opinion.
Thanks for the response. I really should give Arma 3 a fair shot. My favorite part of games is multiplayer, not competitive multiplayer, but cooperative, free thinking multiplayer. Non linear stories with a friend are my favorite gaming sessions.
