Aremis Breaks BSD

Because I can.

Today I’ll be installing BSD, somehow, on 3 separate machines.

  • HP NW8000 with GhostBSD

  • Sun Microsystems Sunfire 2500 (per request of @SEP) running freebsd

  • Apple eMac G4 (1ghz 7450) running OpenBSD

So one way or another, the ones that I think mattel the most are the ones I’m talking about. I have 3 machines to image and I figured, fuck it right?

Later on we’ll play with BSD userlands on my G4 quicksilver in void linux but for now that can wait.

ATM I’m gathering all the hardware together from storage, as well as appropriate upgrades for plain necessity. I’ll post pictures and install process here in a little while.

At the end of this, should I firewall the fuck out of my network and let people play with the machines via telnet?

I think I’m going to bust down my big desk and make it only for projects now. CRT’s only baby!

Quick Q, bsd is still on sysV right? I think my emac will be fine but idk mow sparc works age wise.

-produces shovels-

That’ll… Work?

Heres the rest for those curious.

And uh, well, now this thing.

uhhh?

oh

rip, I don’t have 1g dimms. Oh well.

I wonder where the hard drive is. I haven’t actually done anything to this machine yet.

Oh wow.

Welp never mind. Some idiot fucked one of the screws in here.

Oh well  40gb will do.

2g! Set.

I plan to knock the wall of frame out behind the drive. I have sata to m-ide adapters. But its kinda long 3:

Aight machines are prepped. Will post them all running in a little while.

I was nervous as to whether or not the cd drive in this machine even worked.

I’m having to do 2 desks at the same time in doing this, so I’ll either start the install on the 2 desktops tonight, or I’ll do it tomorrow.

Atm I have other things to attend to, so consider this half of a build log.

What happened?.. or didn’t happen?

Well, look at the second picture.

Thats what happened lol.

Needs to be done by hand. As expected. I’m downloading freebsd just in case because I CAN install that.

Also GhostBSD has no 32 bit support anymore D: guess the laptop will do…

Debian with BSD!

I can’t get this system to go to an ok prompt on boot. It just tries ho boot anyways and then crashes out.

When am I supposed to hit what again? I’m trying to look up the docs but there ain’t much.

yeet, one going smoothaf

BSD systems still use the old style rc scripts, not sys v init nor something like systemd. Though you might find a few projects using openrc
