I wasn't getting my Windows 10 icon on my taskbar so I did some hunting and found this. This is a 100% legit way of doing the process.
Go https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and download the appropriate 32/64 bit tool. You can then use it to make install media and do an upgrade. Just make sure if you are going to do a clean install, first upgrade and activate, then do your reinstall.
Hope this is helpful to anyone who wants to get it done.

Just curious would you just simply use your windows 7 or 8 key for the upgrade when it asks?
I have upgraded my windows 8.1 on my laptop to 10 but I'd like to do a "fresh" install on my desktop.
I haven't personally tested a clean install so I'm not 100% sure on the answer. However, I have gone through a few with some friends and both people did an upgrade first, signed in with their Microsoft account, and then made the media to re-install clean. Upon completion of the clean install the OS just became activated. I'm assuming that it associate that particular PC with your MS account and that's how it knows. If it's a real concern I'm sure you can use something like Produkey or something similar to get the product key, after you do the upgrade and Windows is activated.
Good Luck with it!
Will my Windows 10 Education key work with this version?
I honestly do not know. I'd check the upgrade chart/matrix thingy on MS's website. It tells you what versions will upgrade for free and which will not.
