I just completed my first build so i´m kinda new to this.
i bought an XFX HD 7970 Black Edition with Double Dissipation (the GHz one).
Is 40°C at idle normal for this card? Playing crysis 2 its stable around 84°C (reaching a max. of 88°C).
Should I be worried about these temps.?
I tried to make a custom fan curve on MSI Afterburner (which is trying to burn an XFX card maybe : P) and it was like 2°C colder.
Over 50%, the fans get a bit loud but I really dont care much about this, I just don´t want to see my card dying.
My referance 7970 doesn't get about 70c that seems a little high, though not dangerous so don't worry too much, air dust that shit out and maybe drop the clock if you're incredibly worried.
try different thermal paste.. talk to xfx first to make sure it doesn't void your warranty.
They run hot on the stock heatsink, and louder than Fermi GTX 480's...
Not anything bad, and from experience, my 480 is still going after 3 years of heavy service and extreme overclocking...
I should think as long as you treat it with respect, it will be fine :)

Thanks!
i think i´ll just leave it like this and if it gets hotter i might buy a better cooler.
