Are there any other VR options for PC besides the vive and the oculus?

I've been looking at them both recently and neither seem to float my boat.

The vive comes with all sorts of nonsense that I'd never use, the hand controllers and cameras to dedicate an entire room I don't have to it, I'd really rather have something to just use sat down in games like E:D... which is how I originally imagined VR turning out. Getting up and running around a room like an idiot isn't something I'd fancy. I'd end up breaking something else, or myself.

The oculus, on the other hand, has been dragged out over a stupid amount of time and there's all the fucky EULA issues that'd come into play if I were to ever make something on it, which is a possibility, and then there's all the telemetry stuff being used to give targetted ads thanks to them being owned by Facefuck.

Basically what I'm looking for is a barebones VR headset. Just the headset. Sort of like the VR goggles equivalent to Tek Syndicate's standard issue mouse.

Inb4 tard I'm not saying Tek Syndicate should make a VR headset, that'd be ridiculous, they're already making a game and trying to find a new office, still.

Google Cardboard?

lol, I was thinking of something to use to actually play games with at a PC. Not a two year old fiddly paper proof of concept.

ouch my feelings xD I've heard through the ether that PlayStation's VR headset should be compatible with the PC

Ooo, playstation, you say... you know what that means.
Twelve year olds getting bored with them and selling them on ebay a month or two after christmas for a steal.

This is for phones... like cardboard.
Do I really have to go and edit the OP to save you the time reading the rest of the thread?

Quick google search my give you a few options http://www.wareable.com/headgear/the-best-ar-and-vr-headsets

The fove is off in the future and the Avegant Glyph is no on so many levels (45 degree FOV, 720p).
The OSVR looks alright. Will have to look into how well it'll work with SteamVR

I just recently bought the OSVR...After about 20 hours of messing around with it, my recommendation would be to save your money. There's no inter pupil distance (IPD) adjustment so I can't get rid of double vision. There is adjustment for focus but I have to have the lenses so close to my eyes that I can't blink, and the screen door effect (SDE) is really noticeable (I have the latest version, 1.4, which was supposed to have an improvement on SDE). I've honestly had more fun just using my Google cardboard setup. For cardboard, I recommend the 2.0+ from Unofficial Cardboard. The material is sturdy, there's IPD, and you can get a strap as well. When I ordered my 2.0+ I was able to find a coupon for a free one, just had to pay shipping.
