Just a general question, since I've been out of the gaming loop for a while. Are season passes worth the price? In particular, I'm considering pre-ordering Deus Ex Mankind Divided (since I loved Deus Ex 1), which is 50 Euros regular or 80 when including the season pass.
No. Season passes are BS and no one should pay upfront for stuff that doesn't even exist yet.
Don't pre-order a video-game ;-)
Aside from that, it depends on the publisher. I wouldn't buy UbiSoft season passes, since they don't include every DLC and buying everything is somehow tricky. Other publisher are a bit more transparent, but I don't know Square Enix' practises.
That being said, I pre-orderd WItcher 3 and bought the season pass, because it was heavily discounted on GOG for owners of the previous two parts^^
Ok then, your probably right, it can't get more expensive, can it? So I better wait and decide later. I was just contemplating it, because of my love for Deus Ex (1) and the general PC gaming world shallowness nowadays.
fallout 4 taught me the hard way that season passes are not worth it.
Season passes and pre-orders are just ploys to make customers pay more for the exact same product and often times it's unfinished. It's an extremely anti-consumer tactic and I don't understand how some agency hasn't picked up on that yet.
If you like the base game (which you bought after it came out and you watched reviews) and the season pass is like a battlefield premium situation where you know how many maps and everything you'll be getting, then I don't think its a terrible idea if you were going to buy the maps anyway. But, if your not 100% sure exactly whats included, then just wait.
Not worth it. Pre-Orders are okay for indie developers that are short on money but not for the big guys.
Season pass... You reward companies for pulling d*** moves on you...?
Never
No.
A Season Pass is a marketing tactic to extract money from the customer before producing anything of value based on inflated expectations and false advertising.
There are exceptions...but then again, that's just what they are - exceptions (rare).
Depends on the game.
Witcher 3 it was worth it. I can't think of any other game where it was. $25 for 50 hours of content.
Only season pass that was worth it was bioshock infinite because the DLC was better than the base game. Witcher 3 seems to be ok too. Really wait and see what comes out. DLC bundles are sometimes cheaper that Season Passes anyways.
Bethesda increased the price of the Fallout 4 Season Pass from $30 to $50 on March 1, months after the launch of the game. So yes, there is at least one example of a season pass getting more expensive.
That being said, I still pre-order some games. I never pay retail price though. I pre-order through GMG or Best Buy and save at least 20% on new releases.
I will say this: The whole situation sucks and I hate to say it, but if you really like a game and know you will play it, get it. I could barely find any games / servers running vanilla BF4 and it really turned me off to the game.
Ok thanks guys, that's an overwhelmingly NO then :D
Just one more question: Since I already purchased The Witcher 3 but not the expansions yet and I haven't played the game to this date, is it worth it to get the full expansion pass on this one? I'm only really hesitant because they promised a Linux port which they haven't delivered up until now (that's why I was holding out playing in the first place).
