Are i7 920 and i5 750 still worth it?

Here in my country you can find them for around 50 euros? Just wondering how they compete today,i could probably for 100 euros build much better PC than my current Athlon II X4 620.

A Sandy Bridge part would be a much better investment, if you can find one at around that price.

2600K is 200 euros so no.

I still have an i5 760 its still OK. i upgraded due to the 16GB memory limit and the motherboard only had 1 PCI-e 16 slot

if you ask me a first gen i5 is no longer worth it.. first gen i7's are nice for budget builds though.

I built a gaming machine for a friend on really really low budget with an i7 950, 6gb ram and a HD 5850, it can play any moba at 60 fps 1080p, Tomb raider 2013 at high settings no tress fx above 30 fps 1080p and GTA V at 720p. It might run fallout 4 too, I did not test it.

Depending on the motherboard you may be able to jump to something like Phenom 965 or even some of the 6 cores 1055T/1090T or something... May be even FX... And i believe you will pay less than 100Euro and get similar performance...

The 750 is not worth it anymore. The 920 is OK if you overclock it, from memory you could get it up to 3.8 fairly easily but you would have to speed more on a cooler/ better mob. Because of that i would try to find something sandy bridge as it will perform a lot better in games that are CPU bound and probably end up around the same price.

I have a rig with an i7 920 paired with a gtx980 and 12gb of ddr3that still performed very well gaming. These first gen i7s are still great for gaming, but are starting to fall short with the video production work I Do.

I have used a thuban chip(1090t) side by side with the i7 920 and would go with the Intel part any day.

Interesting.

Very, since 1090 is two times more expensive than 920 lol.

So what is your motherboard again?

I dont have anything yet,I was just wondering if that is worth the upgrade.

My mobo is old Asus M2N68 AM SE2,with DDR2.

Well, the best you can go without changing the mobo is 955/1055/1075...

Huh, I guess the two are a lot closer in performance than I thought lol

I'll put it this way: Back in june and july, probably april is when I got the machine, I got a dell optiplex 980 and was streaming with an i7 920 and a gt330.

I never had a latch.

While I wouldn't recommend it for the future, yeah, it's still a good chip from a user-side perspective. From the side of "I have a number sheet" yeah maybe not by the end of next year. A 4690 would be better or a k variant.

He has motherboard with ddr2... 1090 is DDR3 cpu... 1075 OS his best bet without changing the motherboard... Otherwise it's pointless... 1090 or first gen i7 is the same, and the motherboard, and the ram...

i7 920s can had for a good price, but getting a X58 motherboard and a X5650 6 core xeon is a better idea.

X5650 is 140 euros itself.

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R+Intel i7 920+6GB DDR3 = 170 euros.
