Summary:
Using latest linux kernel with latest linux-firware package causes a system hang at boot. Downgrading linux-firmware appears to fix the issue.

Yep, one of the downsides to rolling release. Looks like they already are applying a fix downstream so it should be safe to update in a day or two. Apparently packagebuilds already work.
Hopefully this post helped at least one unsuspecting person out there. I know the reddit post saved me an hours worth of hassle.
