Archive footage: The Information Society (1982)

See how many games you recognise in the opening montage, for some this will be: 0.

This 18 min information technology video from 1982, uploaded a few hours ago to the Australian National Film & Sound Archive YouTube channel, is so culturally dated and showcases equipment so antiquated (I'm looking @ you CSIRAC) it may border on hilarious for many viewers.

But stick with it and you'll see some quite familiar, contemporary aspirations and issues, such as the impact of technology on the workforce, assistive technology such as IR camera based eye tracking, the roll-out and increasing ubiquity of residential inter-networked computers (well, télématique... but hey it was so ahead of its time) and the fact that technology evolves faster than legislation and politics (probably faster than legislators and politicians, for that matter).

Pretty insightful for its time.

Kinda makes you think: new tech comes and goes, but some of the concerns & issues stay the same.

Then you realise it's been over 30 years since this was made.

Anyways, just sharing, hope you enjoy this clip from The Information Society.
