Apu + gpu?

Alright i have an APU: AMD A10 5800K 4-Core Processor (with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D)..I would like to add to the graphics by adding a Radeon HD7770. Will this work just normally? Or is there a special way to doing this?

so you want to xfire you apu and gpu?

Does xfiring work with apu + gpu? I had thought it was only with gpu + gpu that this process would work.

you can xfire with your apu but it has to be a 6xxx series and 6670 and below

Ah I see. Well, would it just be more easier or 'effiecient' i guess to just get a normal cpu and a gpu?

i would think at least it would be less complicated i dont know very much about apu's :(

mmm as you can see, me neither :/ hahaha i'll search around a bit and see what i come up with

A 6670 is the best card you can "dual graphics" with the 5800k. From what I've seen, it's better to save your money for a discrete card and ignore the dual graphics/xfire apu setup. Read this article

Readers who consider themselves proper gamers would still be best-advised at spending at least an APU-matching £100 on a mid-range graphics card, because a Radeon HD 7850 or GeForce GTX 660 assuredly knock the spots off anything a well-matched Dual Graphics configuration can offer.

somebody who know's what there talkin about !!!!!

ergh, kind of confusing at the least. but i shall definitely try and work it out and get it sorted

I have done this using a A8-3870k and a HD 6670, i would strongly recommend not doing this, you do get a decent gaming machine, but if you are going to use a discrete GPU Like the HD7770 then buy a normal CPU to begin with.

With using the HD7770 as a normal GPU you will get much better performance than having your APU crossfired with the best GPU that's possible, not sure what it is for the new A8 but for me it is the 6670.

Long story short, no you cant crossfire it with your APU, and the graphics cards you can crossfire with (the best being a 6670) would not give you the same performance gain.

I hope you understand what i wrote, im still hungover from last night.

The performance boost from using amd dual graphics with the a10 and say the 6670 is not that great, you'd get a much better performance boost from buying a slightly better card and using it as your dedicated graphics, and disable the integrated 7660d. You can pick up a gtx 550 ti for pretty cheap and it performs very well for not that much more money.

I have this exact config(a10 5800k + 6670 1gig DDR 5) and it is working great I would highly recommend this for a low to mid end gaming system.

One thing about this combination is you MUST get the DDR5 6670 and DON'T get the DDR3 version. There is a quite a difference in performance when running dual graphics between these cards.

P.S. also make sure to get 1866Mhz or greater in system memory to get an even greater boost in graphics performance.
