Well. I hope you are not one of those poor souls whose files were gathered, converted and deleted... damn TOS no-f$"§ing-body reads.
I no apple, I no windows for important stuff...
... they just got served what the "tinfoilhatters" were proposing for years. You buy into an ecosystem where you are nothing more than a hive drone without rights. Apple knows best what is good for you.. deal with it.. don't cry.
well, but that goes beyond good or evil. They take it away, you loose those files and once the subscription ends, you don't have any way to get them back.
I am on linux/bsd - but still: that is one step too far.
They don't even guarantee their product works as intended!?
This was on /r/technology earlier today, wasn't it?
Same sentiment as the commenters there: if you buy into a draconian system and accept drm, you have to be ready to lose everything irreparably. I have no pity.
Sorry to repeat myselve but
thats the whole story - I passionately dislike apple, not for their design, not for the hardware not even for the software, but for how they conduct business, how they shit on customers heads in regard of "you dont own it" we sell you a "lend" kinda approach.
yes, and spreading over the twitters as well
EDIT: some enlightment that this behaviour could be prevented:
Not saying I knew this would happen, but I read EULAs...
HOLY! That is some heavy intrusion into peoples computers and intellectual property rights! WTF!
no pity... users sign their rights and privacy away too easily.
I predict we will begin seeing such stories more often with win10.
The can delete my p0rn .. its backed up scnr
I have a big FLAC library i've built up over the years.
I've only ever hooked it up to winamp and mpd. You'd never catch me installing something as stupid as iToons or Stupify.
Wow...just--wow...
Here's the crux of the issue:
That is a very scary future, indeed. It is the capitalists' wet dream: They don't have to keep manufacturing goods if they lend them out. They only need to replace them when they fail. Thus, saving on the costs of manufacturing excess, while having a constant source of profit from the consumer.
This is why it's important that physical media always exists. They are the photographer's negatives. (Yes, I know those would actually be masters; but from a consumer standpoint, for all intents and purposes, this metaphor will have to do.)
Had this happen the other day. Luckily my mp3 player and android phone hold all my music. I'm necer using apple again.
MINDS BLOWN!!!!!
I'm a bit sad you guys are just now hearing of this. Apple has been screwing over your library since like 2002
This is why i keep all media, music, movies and TV shows stored outside.
“hang onto your media. One day, you won’t buy a movie. You’ll buy the right to watch a movie, and that movie will be served to you. If the companies serving the movie don’t want you to see it, or they want to change something, they will have the power to do so. They can alter history, and they can make you keep paying for things that you formerly could have bought. Information will be a utility rather than a possession. Even information that you yourself have created will require unending, recurring payments just to access.”
Pretty much where we're headed.
Good thing I have 3 copies and use Linux :P... some how my windows 8 disk hasn't updated to 10. ...although I rarely boot to it.
20 years of importing music to his Mac and not one backup? He might as well have just set fire to his CDs one by one.
20 years without a dying hard disk... to think he's been lucky this long only to have it deliberately wiped. He should get a lotto ticket... only to loose his winnings the next the day.
If you bothered to read the article he made backups, but this is still something you should be bitching to apple about as inappropriate and over reaching. Especially for people who aren't as cautious as to do so
