App recommendation

Mods if this is in the wrong section please move it!

So as some of you know I’ve started the 1 year linux challenge.

With the recent issues with youtube I’ve been looking at other ways to consume the content their. I know that free tube and pipped were mentioned to me before and as they are decent they don’t seem to be feature complete.

My question is there a better app or way to have something like free tube or piped to import the subscription / play lists easily enough. I really don’t feel like spending a week or more to recreate those lists in another app.

Thanks in advanced.

If your aim is to download these video’s, you may want to investigate the yt-dlp tool.

HTH!

No. But have the play lists fully functional and be able to pull in my subscription list! I have over 450 channels I subscribe to and having to look up each one just to add them back in in another app is not a job I want to do if there is an easier way. I also don’t know how many videos I have saved in various play lists…

Free tube can import the subscription but not the play lists and piped doesn’t appear to do either!

To be honest I’m being lazy and wanted to skip the time to recreate them in another app if it’s possible.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I mean if that’s your issue with them then you should probably start by telling us what features you’re missing.

This can already be done in 2 minutes work:

Playlists are in the same export.

Yes but it doesn’t work. At least not for me and it’s stated that this feature is not fully implemented as of yet!

Working subscriptions and playlist with relatively easy import functionality. Would be the best 2 options to start with and then adding in support for resolutions higher that 1080p.

Sofar those are the only 3 issues i have with freetube to be honest.
I know the devs are working on it and quite honest will be keeping an eye on the project as it progresses!

It’s possible to use freshrss (self hosted rss reader) to manage ‘subscriptions’ with an invidious plugin to misdirect the content. This has the benefit of enabling using e.g. ipad for video again. I had to add the rss feeds yes, but just did this on an ‘as interested’ basis. Also works with nebula (including podcasts), and at least some of the peertube platforms e.g. tilvids. as well as standard rss things.
