AP repeater help, using dd-wrt as primary AP

ok, so i finally found time to work on some stuff and got around to throwin dd-wrt on my linksys router, wrt54gs v7, that was fun, had a hiccup during the flash, but luckily was able to salvage my router from the cmd. and finish gettin dd-wrt on there.

step two, get this old rosewill router my girlfriend brought with her to act as a repeater.

(at this time i'll toss the reasoning behind this, finally got around to installing steam OS on my htpc, been tryin streaming, was gettin lots of sound lag and bad fps, attempting to resolve that issue. HTPC is wireless)

It's a roswill

RNX-EasyN4

lol, copy and paste, i'll just keep that there. So i set it up as an AP-repeater, It works for wired connections, so i just plugged my htpc into it (just a slightly long cable) and got a much better connection, however i find nothing is connecting to it wirelessly, which was my original intention, till i realized due to the amount of wireless activity the (repeater) router automatically throttles wireless connections by half.

i've troubleshooted a lot so i'll try to keep the key points nicely separated to ease in trying to understand what i'm saying here.

I see two SSID's of the same name with my wifi analyzer,(little android app) but i find nothing is connecting to it, instead continuing to use the Pri AP.(primary AP) I know this because the repeater router doesn't list any active connections, nor does plugging or unplugging the repeater have an affect on nearby devices)

An option is to broadcast another SSID, I did so, different SSID than Pri AP. It becomes listed however no devices are able to connect to it. whether it's secured or open, there is an error or hanging connection on anything i've tried.

To ensure the routers functionality, I swapped it as my Pri router and found it functions fine in of itself

It is working as a repeater on the LAN, (wired connections) without a hitch.

Am i misunderstanding what a repeater actually does? can it connect to my Pri AP and then re-broadcast that signal? should i see more than one AP from my devices? or is it seamless? Never tried this, well.. years ago i tried a plug in wall repeater that i couldn't get working either, but that was back in like, 2000 or somethin when i didn't know what the hell i was doing anyway.. i guess i still don't :P thanks for any help

It sounds like you are trying to set it up as a repeater bridge. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge

Be aware this setup will cut bandwidth in half. You didn't mention if the Rosewill router had dd-wrt on it. I doubt the stock firmware supports repeater bridge, so you will need to flash it as well if you want this to work.

sorry the rosewill is stock, no ddwrt, the repeater is built into it's firmware abilities.

if it's a wireless bridge i'm aiming for, whats a repeater then?

Actually, I'm not sure. I skimmed over the manual for that router, and most of the settings I would suggest that you change are not available.

I'm sure you already read through this, but in case you haven't: http://goo.gl/S63EDS

yeah been there, maybe i'll try a firmware upgrade when i get time, because the setup implies that you can connect to the repeater router, which will then link back to Pri
