Anyone know anything about monitor color calibration?

Every time I do stuff with my computer I find that the actual gamma of the monitor seems to change. I have a frustratingly hard time to keep the color rand gamma on my monitor constant. I loaded the color profile that came with my monitor, and disabled windows management of color calibration, but it still seems to constantly change. When I use the Nvidia control panel I find that the control panel values do not change from what I last set them.

I already realize that gamma varies slightly with viewing angle, but for most of the observations I got a protractor and made sure that the viewing angle that I'm observing with is the same.

I have tried the program color profile keeper, but this just enforces the use of the specified color profile. It also causes some bugs and crashes when it tries to force the profile.

I have been researching this problem for a while, but still have no coherent answer to how I would go about solving this.
