Anyone have a bad story from not having ECC RAM?

The quote makes some sense, but the thing is you can get much worse, by hitting a bitflip changing a READ request into a WRITE, or other completely changing the flow of the program.

That being said, I’ve seen enough bad code to not be surprised if there is a clause that starts wiping drives randomly after getting hit with a bitflip. See the recent drama about silent data corruption - something similar could be caused by a rogue bitflip.
