Anybody familiar with Open vSwitch?

Hi guys n girls,

I made a small virtual network in Oracle Virtualbox to test out pfSense. I'm currently trying simulate a CARP failover, but I'm missing a switch. I managed to install Open vSwitch on Ubuntu, but the only tutorials I can find are for setups with virtual machines on (= in)  the Ubuntu box. What I want to do is give my Ubuntu VM 4 virtual interfaces and let the VM act as a switch inside Virtualbox. (If you get the impression that I'm in over my head you are spot on :P)

Anybody knows if what I want can be done and if so how to configure that thing ? C'mon Wendell, dont be shy, help a brother out here ok :P

Thanks in advance y'all.

Edit: Ow yeah completely forgot: this is what I want to make:

Edit 2: Or can I just replace the switch with a router? (see diagram in link)

=> nope, can't use router because it needs a gateway, switch uses whatever path available.

Bump. Help :P

VirtualBox internally switches anyway. So vSwitch shouldn't be needed.

If you want to force traffic through the PfSense box, you need to change the settings of the interfaces to Host-Only on the LAN side and sync connections of the pfsense virtual machine and also any other machines you are testing with.

Super ! It worked. Thanks zanginator :D Completely didn't read the part about host-only. Shame on me :P
