I was helping a friend with their build earlier this evening and there was an issue. The 120mm x 25mm fan on the right side of their Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heatsink is too thick to mount with fully populated RAM slots (ASRock Z97 Anniversary). I searched around for 120mm x 12mm fans, however, all of the reviews have either been mixed or focused on general case intake applications.
Anyone have any suggestions on decent 120mm x 12mm fans that would be suited for this application?
Thanks for the reply, but changing the mounting orientation of the heat sink is not an option. The dimensions simply will not allow it without interfering with the current ram dimms, much like the current predicament with the 25mm depth fan.
As to the Scythe Slipstreams, do you have any experience with them?
cant you just lift the fan up a bit??
The build is a complete menagerie of parts that they have either purchased recently, in the past, or have been donated/found. That said, the ram dimms are incredibly tall (I can not recall the manufacturer/model). Sliding the fan upwards enough to clear the dimms would leave the fan well above the closing threshold of the side panel on the case.
Since the heat sink was one of parts donated to them, they have decided to purchase a different heat sink solution. Nonetheless, Thanks for your help @WTFShelley and @deejeta.
