I'm buiding my first computer ever and I followed a few guides by channels like LinusTechTips, Razethew0rld, NewEgg, and a few articles online. What do the forum folks think about this build? Any way I could save money or get a cheaper alternative? maybe some input on compatibility? by the way I know ppl are not fond of the Corsair Obsidian 650D at least last time I posted on the forums I got negative feedback on it but for my first build case it seems the most well equiped and Easy for cable management purposes.
artic silver 5 is.... eh. there is better. look into tuniq tx thermal paste. i like the tx2, tx4 is a bit too thick imo.
the soundcard... you need a 7.1 system with spdif. if you dont have a good surround sound system, you dont need that. your mb will have 7.1 on it anyway...
you can get two WD black 2tb's and raid 0 them. you will get better speed and save ~40 bucks.
your psu is a bit overkill... try to find a modular one for the same price thats a bit cheaper.
dont buy windows.... no one does that.
thats my $0.02. from a specs point of view, thats a nice system though.
@ ztrain Just wondering, I read that the h100i comes with thermal paste already on the water block that attaches to the CPU is that true? also I'm scared to do the whole raid thing maybe when I put the rig together and learn some more first hand I will try that. About the Windows OS honestly it's just for the games I play on steam I don't think any other OS has steam with games compatible to it like windows has. I mean mac has some games but have you seen the games section for mac and windows on steam? It's like night and day. Thx very much for the input much appreciated, also beyondnight, nice picture.
It does come with thermal compound pre-attached, I don't know how good it is, though. The PSU is a bit overkill, 650W would be fine but go for 750W if you want the option to throw another one in later.
While the Corsair Obsidian 650D looks badass. It's a $200 case that has way too much plastic. Look into the Corsair Graphite 600T or Silverstone Fortress FT02!
Instead of a 4TB Black for storage+nonessentials. Why not go for a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB for non-essential programs/games and a WD 3TB Red for storage?
Pretty sure the Seagate Momentus XT will outperform a WD 4TB Black.
I also recommend throwing away the Arctic Silver 5. There are better and easier to use products out there like the ones mentioned above
Regarding ztrain's comment about not buying Windows. I agree but that does not mean I say go and pirate it.
I don't buy Windows because my university gives me it as part of my tuition. So it's "free" for going to school. So I haven't bought a single copy of Windows yet but I won't start pirating Windows when school is out and I want a newer version of it. I hope he isn't juvenile enough to promote pirating as some human right.
Thx man i'm looking into the 600 T as I type this on the other window lol, thanks for the hard drive suggestions. Wish we had a reputation option in the forums lol.
