I have been building Pc's for a bit now, but i was just told that i should ALWAYS use anti static wristbands? ive always just felt up my case rather vulgar manner to get in tune with my metal side. Should i start using wristbands .. or just keep on feeling up my case and building on my wood table?
thanks
Andrew
Just keep a hand on the case at all times and you will be okĀ
The grounded wrist strap is just an extra precaution. I think its a good idea when you are working on gear that is not yours, but there are lots of people that will tell you its unnecessary. If you are prone to wearing wool socks on a hardwood floor while performing surgery on your computer, you better go with the anti static measures.
yes the amount of computes/mother boards that I have killed without that IT IS A GOD SENDĀ
I use a wristband myself which connects to the PC chassis itself so I don't have to keep reminding myself to constantly ground myself.
I've build a PC before without a wristband but that wasn't as highend as my current PC now. All I did back then was put the mobo on top of the box that the mobo was package in as my building station, but before I laid my hands on it I would touch anything metal that's in contact with the floor (not carpeted), and everything went fine.
I use one only when I clean my PC, I have an electric air duster that has passed some static in the past.
