Android Tablet as 2nd screen?

I've been looking around but I can only seem to find network stuff, is there any way I can use an android tablet as a 2nd/main screen? I'd prefer if it were possible over USB or HDMI, I know there are USB powered monitors, but if I could do this instead that'd be awesome.

thanks for any help, what would be even greater is if it could be used as a touch screen as well while being used as a monitor, but a man can dream.

Wendel did something like this where he mounted an ipad display in a mini itx PC case. It worked great but the touchscreen does not work.

It looks really cool and I am still thinking of doing it for fun.

Ya, but that requires a few things, and hooking it up by USB/HDMI and turning on a switch would be great. I wonder if its even possible.

just a bit of conjecture.

virtual display and remote desktop.

found a couple links that may be useful,

so on the linux side, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=180904 combine that with something like splashtop on android (got a full version free from amazon app store the other day)

and a few for windows, http://www.zoneos.com/zonescreen.htm , or create a virtual display and splashtop/teamviewer http://www.ishadow.com/vdm/?doing_wp_cron=1404949051.5707249641418457031250

I have used splashtop to stream video to phone, and can control using the touchscreen, so thats one of your requirements, though how it'd work in multimonitor setups I have no idea

So there's no way to simply do it via hard wire?

not that I can see. never seen any android (or any others) tablets/phones that would allow the onboard screen to be used by another device (same goes for laptops)

why do you want it via usb/HDMI?? the only way I can see that happening is with a dedicated touchscreen monitor, not through an existing device

Thats an idea, but I was hoping to use it on a laptop with a damaged screen. Dunno why thats not an option though.
