Android, is it becoming the new walled garden?

These article have some interesting things to say about the future of android devices, mobiles and tablets.  I can't see that Logan and Wendell have touched any of these topics, which would be a nice topic for a Tek episode.  How will these issues intersect with each other. Some of the issues here are regional in nature, while others are platform wide. Will Android survive in its current form, or will it morph under the pressure from patent litigation, into another walled garden akin to iOS?
