An Overview/guide to day to day i3WM usage

Thought i would give this a crack. This video was aimed at people who are currently using mate/unity/gnome, but are interested trying i3. Never tried making a guide or overview thingy but yeah, amazing what you can do when you have a 10 hour train journey. If anyone wants it i would be happy to make an I3 installation guide.

cheers.

Do you have a guide for how to install it?
I installed it on a linux mint vm (already had vm installed so I used it) and got this.

Yeah I'll record a guide on installing it in the next couple of days if you would like.

From what I can see in that screen shot, i3 seems to be running. Is the virtual machine capturing your mod key?

Also another thing to note is that the deafualt look of i3 is a wee bit different from mine. The main two differences being that you will have a black on black theme and will use numerals for the virtual desktops. also you will have to use an app like feh to set the backround.

Thanks for the work! I would love that guide on installing i3WM, I used it on a setup that wasn't mine, and would love to have my own setup.

It looks like the i3 status bar "i3status" isn´t installed, otherwise it seems to be working, maybe the VM isn't capturing your mod key as @gerkinyagerkin suggested.

As @chmod000 hmod000 said, you need to install i3status. I don't really know why it didn't install that for you as one of the dependencies, but there you go. Everything else is the way i3 looks without configureation.

What distro are you running?

Also, staying on topic. Nice guide @gerkinyagerkin

For anyone wondering why I havnt made a new guide, allnmy computer gear got drenched in transit(laptop and PC). Waiting for insurance payout...

I stumbled upon this video via YouTube when I was first getting to grips with i3. Good job, dude!
