So I bought one of those amazing 40 inch displays, and it seemed to work fine for a while. I did get a single stuck pixel, but it's not too bad, I'll just have to live with it. However, it would take a long time to wake from sleep and one time it would just NOT wake up, no matter what buttons I pressed, etc. Eventually I resorted to unplugging it from the wall and plugging it back in again. Then it worked again for a while.
About a week ago, this happened a second time, and when I unplugged it that time to fix it, .... it never turned on again. Now it's completely dead. I plug it in, I get no lights, nothing whatsoever at all happens.
I tried talking to the ebay seller about getting a new one but he was no help whatsoever, he basically told me to go eat a spider (not in so many words) since there had been 30 or more days since I got the product into my hands. It had been exactly 32 days. So yeah. The seller was gn_australia if you want to know. I feel bad that I already left him good positive feedback and I can't change it, only do a "followup".
Now I'm debating whether I should continue to try to get it replaced, or try to get it fixed locally, or even fix it myself, or is there another option I don't know about? I'm thinking this might just be a bad capacitor and easily fixed, which is why I'm not panicking yet. I have replaced a capacitor in a monitor before and it went okay.
sounds like a surge or a heating problem caused it to go to safe mode, but the second time it damaged the monitor. a repair shop should be able to find the specific fried chip in their and replace it for you on the cheap. if you want to learn how to do it yourself watch this guys vids
Is it version 2.0 ?, then no parts from V 1.0 will fit, (or should since it is a different screen and controller version). I would start indicating the seller your membership in Teksyndicate, and that already, this situation WILL NOT help his reputation, ans the TEK is no small thing ! and keep poking ! If ever, the last resort is a local repair shop, do check that they know what they are doing, and that they do this type of repair regularly, otherwise they will toast completely the screen in their attempts. (IMO) There might be some others with different problems on the A409U V 2.0 and that might assist you. I do remember a couple of cases and they were on V 2.0! YES I would keep trying to get a replacement ! IF you paid paypal, via eBay also (I think) there is more than 30 days, that you can complain about the purchase, check please !!! as s foot note , I always had my 40,s on a smart ups; hydro lines here are VERY unstable, and hitting 130 in the higher points. !
Try a different power source - if you can get your hands on one
You mean a different outlet? Yes, I did that, and also verified that they were in fact giving power by plugging in a lamp afterwards.
I'm not sure if I have 1.0 or 2.0. I don't have the display next to me right now so I couldn't check it anyway. I'll maybe edit in that information once I know. I used a credit card to pay, not paypal. I sent another message to the seller indicating that I've made a topic on the Tek Syndicate forums, but I'm still not too hopeful. Not sure what else I could say to them. I'll give it some more time.
Get it fixed or diagnose and fix it yourself. Should've bought a Dell etc. instead of this if you expected any kind of proper warranty. The seller is a dick but you already left positive feedback and so on.
However, if you paid via Paypal they have a 45 day window to open up a dispute from the time of purchase. If you're still within that time period, go and open it. Get Paypal involved. I haven't had the need to open any disputes so can't help you further with that, hopefully other people here can.
There isn't any read-only priced Dell that's comparable (add at least $1k USD). I just factor in the price of a SquareTrade warranty to the purchase on something like this. It's under $100 USD.
I know. But that's the thing, you get what you pay for. (oh and I just named Dell as an example as they have a very good warranty service) Buy a product from never-heard-of-manufacturer from South Korea on eBay and you get exactly that.
Although: the AMH A409U looks to be about ~580€ from Ebay right now, factor in VAT for me and it would be about 720€. A similar (ish) Philips BDM4065UC I can get for 840€ shipped from Germany where I get a bog standard 2yr EU warranty and a pickup&return service as a cherry on top.
Of course I live in Finland, in EU, but you or the OP might live elsewhere where the warranties and/or prices could be much different. Just saying.
Did you buy local or imported it ? Depending on the credit card contract you could be protected under one of their policies, worth checking. (IMO) If bad comes to worst, and exhaust all before using the big guns, but threaten with pursuit for false advertising..........in any case the unit is warranted for a year, he has to take care of the monitor, in either case. (IMO). The seller MUST be aware of the consequences of a YouTube video showing how bad he has treated you ! OR, since you are a very understanding customer and you do not want to create/or have, problems, please have sent a power board or parts suspected of giving this result. (the not powering on) and you will put them in ! Wether the power cord would be removable or not, the power board is internal. Are you using 115 or 220 ? There is an internal switching circuit to handle either 115 or 220 (or so), if you can get your hands on a step-up transformer or a step-down transformer, that would be another worthwhile test ! Yeah...many possibilities, one must give results ! :-) IMO, buying a local brand is my no means an indication of after-sale service..........New-Egg and Amazon are darn good examples. (IMO) and yes I do still deal with both.
edit 1 = this is their policy I believe :
Return Policies All faulty products are eligible for return, exchange, and refund. Please, contact us before you ship any products back to us. ( Phone number: 82-70-4837-6310) Returns and exchanges within 14 days from receipt of the products are welcomed as long as the returned items are in the exact same condition as we sent them and in the original unopened boxes. _Once the item is used, it is not returnable unless it has a defect by which the item doesn’t work for its own purpose. All the internal packing materials, additional items, and a free gift should be included for return and_
exchange. The products damaged by customers are un-returnable, and in case of losing additional items, including free gifts, if any, not only return but refund and exchange are rejected. Once the products are unpacked and used, the products are not eligible for return and refund. Custom-made products made by an individual order, such as clothes, handmade shoes, or jewelry, are not eligible for return, refund, and exchange if there is no defect. All returns should be pre-approved. A request for return and exchange will be expired and automatically canceled when customers don’t post the item within 7 days from the date of request.
3 HDMI ports. I imported it by having the ebay seller send it to me? I live in Iceland. If I went to a local shop to buy an equivalent monitor it would have been something like double the price. The electricity here is 220 volts. I actually do have a transformer that will convert to 110 volts, but the plug holes are American style and it wouldn't fit, so I can't try that right now. It's a good suggestion though and I'll keep it in mind.
I knew it was a gamble, I just hoped I wouldn't lose. Yes, I feel dumb. Definitely never ever buying anything expensive on ebay again.
Hi ! I can only find a tv/monitor not a monitor with dp, am i correct ? therefore not a 4K it is a 409LTE not U ! I buy on eBay regularly, it happens, it is not eBay or you ! Many people call it the monitor lottery, and it is. (IMO) do not deprive yourself of good stuff because of one bad experience !
Hi ! I can only find a tv/monitor not a monitor with dp, am i correct ? therefore not a 4K it is a 409LTE not U !
Wait what? How do you figure that? There is also a DP and a VGA port and a USB thing on the monitor I have. I don't think I got the wrong monitor, but it would explain why the UI on mine looks different from my friend's, who also bought the same monitor at the same time. We thought it must have been because of different firmware versions. Also, the cardboard box it came in has 409U printed on it, not 409LTE.
edit: I've escalated the return request with ebay. We'll see if that does anything, probably not.
I also had similar experience after buying WASABI MANGO UHD400 from GN_AUSTRALIA. Just horrible customer support. If anyone sees do not buy from this seller. Maybe author of this topic should rename this title to "AMH A409U dead, GN_AUSTRALIA ebay seller won’t help" to bring some awareness.
Listen the powersupply and controller board on these monitors are Korean made and often commonly obtainable component 'boards' for decent prices. Before pulling out the soldering iron or paying someone to do so get the model number of the psu and the mainboard in the monitor and check on Alibaba, often the seller will even offer you a replacement of either.
Definitely a very good suggestion, but you must be electronics knowledgeable. And yes most probably the parts are available, but.........this is not for everyone. With these electronics you DO have to be very careful. Although, a new unit, MUST be replaced, DO push through ebay !!! (good luck) I still could not find the model from that seller on ebay ??
do not forget loons for the knowledgeable...............not for everyone ! (IMO)
I only suggested it because he was already talking about opening it up and pocking it and all. Otherwise yes, just do the good old paypal warranty claim dispute thingo, that will get their attention! (but might cost you in return postage in certain situations).
