Hey i have a simple question i've always wondered literally how out of date American Cable ISP Infrastructure is. I work for a small ISP in Canada and we run Fiber from our main Head end to all of our nodes and from the nodes it is coax. The service is actually pretty awesome for running coax into the home the service is 100 Down and 10 Up and there is no data caps or trottling and it is very cost affordable compared to other companies in the area. How much actual fiber do these American Cable ISP's have integrated into there setup? Thanks
American ISP's are still useing copper and pushing it to about 300 mbps max. overall we don't have but maybe 10 in some areas due to throttling.
Actually, from what I understand, most US cable ISPs have a similar setup to what you describe. Fiber to the node, and copper to the home. Of course, the vast majority of the coax also carries a constant stream of a couple hundred channels of digital television as well, which is a major limiting factor in regards to in home bandwidth availability. The rest of the problems seem to stem from throttling, poor traffic shaping and just general douchebaggery.
