What do you think amd is focusing the most on in terms of the cpu department (apu's included). I think their #1 focus is on consoles because that will drive them a lot of money. In the pc department, I think they are trying to push apu's more, but their main focus is the 8350. One question I have, do u think amd focuses on the Fx 9370 or 9590? I don't think they really care about those cpu's because they saw how the community responded too 220w cpu's.
I don't think we will see a new AMD CPU for at least 1 year and I'm pretty sure the FX series has come to it's end. As to where their focus is, it's not on consoles, that's a done deal, they will supply the new gen consoles for at least 5 years until the next generation comes, there is nothing for them to do anymore other than mass produce the parts needed. I think they shifted their attention to the APU's since it's a kinda new market and since most of the world is poor and can't afford high-end parts I would guess the focus is good. Think of it as Maybach vs A-Class, the first was discontinued because the latter produced more profit over a year and it didn't require such an advanced fabrication process.
I remember reading somewhere that the contractual agreement (dont know if it was ms or sony) was six years.. will try and dig it out, i could be remembering it wrong.
which is a little odd as industry analysts are claiming that the next gen console life will be closer to 10 years so there is disparity there.
I am hoping to get at least one more fx cpu out of amd to replace my 8350 when it is getting a bit creaky but I am not too bothered.. if apu's are the future then I welcome our new overlords.
I am hoping that amd go big on branding with the next gen consoles (e.g powered by amd on the startup screens) as it would massively boost their brand awareness to the average consumer that has never heard of them... (sadly when normal consumers think of processors they think intel with that little commercial jingle going through their heads)
If amd dont go big on their branding on the consoles I will be a little disappointed as it is such an obvious move to make... basically free marketing
once their brand is more common in the minds of the average user I can see amd branding other pc components (like the did with ram) just so that people who are now familiar with amd (though this console brainwashing) will buy amd.
Well i think that amd will not drop theire FX line, because program“s and games in the future gonne be optimized to use more threads (cores) and AMD has a realy strong point in multi threaded applications.
Kaveri is coming out in January/February, that will be the first to have Steamroller cores. I don't know why that wouldn't count as a new CPU.
I mean.... all Intel CPUs are APUs, they just don't call them that and nobody buys an i7 and gives shit number one about the iGPU it comes with. Because it sucks.
AMD's focus is away from CPU-only packages because their new tech (HSA, Mantle, and such) doesn't apply there.
LOLZ FOCUSING ON CONSOLE!! LOL. from what i saw amd just said you wanted a chip well we had this thing that we couldnt use and its kinda crappy but its really cheap... you want it?
Then you saw wrong?
They need to improve single core performance, a die shrink and get into sff.
