Hi everyone,
this is bugging me for quite a while now and I couldn't find a solution to it on google.
I have a Radeon HD 7870 and two monitors attached to it (one DVI and one HDMI). Whenever both monitors are on, my card does not switch to zerocore (in order to use less energy). It runs at 300/1200, which is better than my stock speeds (1100/1200) but it's still not zeroCore.
Now if i turn off one of the monitors (it doesn't matter which one), i get the zerocore mode as desired: 300/150. Do you know why this is not working with two monitors?
2 monitors use more resources than 1, thus needing more energy.
Its never actualy 'zero' as the card would not work this is the standard with one monitor (currently what my card has downclocked to)
You may find the clocks go up a little with extra montors more montors = extra resolution = extra vram is needed = the ram clocks go up a little.
300/XXX is okay because it won't even go lower on the core clock in zero core power. I just don't understand why 1200Mhz on my VRAM is necessary. I manually downclocked it to 600Mhz on the RAM and that is even enough to play basic games (LoL).
I've noticed the same thing on my setup. Doesn't really bother me, but like you said, just manually clock the memory?
Control Panel > Power Options > Balance > Change Plan Settings > Change Advance Power Settings > PCI Express > Link State Power Management > Moderate Power Savings /Maximum Power Savings
That didn't work for me unfortunately :-/
With a couple of monitors i didnt see it again until i crossfired.
