Now that we know that the AMD R9 290X is coming, the next big question was how much does the damn thing cost, and well that news has just hit. Newegg.com is the first e-tailor to have an actual price and item to match as the MSI R9 290X has been priced at $729.99 conforming finally a price of the new card.
This price is not the so-called “official” price, but rather a hidden price inside the actual HTML code. The suggested retail price is just that at the moment and real pricing may be in the $699.99 range as Newegg pads their pricing between $10-30 on the suggested price.
If this should hold true then the card will most likely sell at around $699.99, but they will want to keep the actual price a secret until sales launch day.
The thing is AMD themselves have not released this price so it is subject to change at any given moment, which also gives AMD the flexibility to change it to whatever they feel is best upon the time of its release.
Original price rumors showed the card at about $599.99, but now it seems AMD may want just a little more for their cards then we had anticipated, but nothing as of now is written in stone.
Here is where things get a bit sticky and tricky though, because at this price point the R9 290X is actually $50.00 more expensive than a GTX 780 and this can only work for them if the card really kicks the GTX 780 ass in the scores.
If not AMD fans will be sorely pissed as the card is supposed to be the Titan killer.
AMD needs to make sure that this card is priced correctly as this can make or break this launch for them. At least for now we have a reference price point to go off of, but who knows maybe AMD will surprise us all and have really good pricing ensuring their fans get what they want and deserve after waiting so long.
I was hoping for a 599 price tag mostly because It would drive the other high end card down in price some but it does not really matter since I am going to buy a R9 280x or a gtx 770 or something
I think even even though it shows a picture of a reference card there i suspect its MSI's twin frozr model maybe why its a little more expencive but nuthing writen in stone yet.
Already pissed at Amd . One card does not make a new line up . Wait for benchmarks . I decided to crossfire my 7870 s because other than some power savings this gen offers nothing a little overclock cant do. Well , okay maybe some new software . That will be compatable with the hd 7000 series cards. So this gen release is really all based on one card and that sucks. They could really shoot themselves in the foot if they dont price that card around 400 to 500 dollars.
Another lame duck offering that while technically might be competition for 780 or titan . Will die a fast practical death. But still waiting on benchmarks. Remember its just a opinion of mine and i hope i am wrong .
these are pre-order prices, most likely. it's a deposit, i've heard, as the actual release price has not bee revealed yet. and there are two more cards: the r9 290 and the r9 290x. they are not the same card.
I needed to edit my post a third time, but didn't want to...
Maybe when the BF4 promo (only preorders) is done, it'll drop 59.99$ (along with this deposit you speak of) and be around 600$, who knows.
Edit: Here is a link showing prices a few hours before the "newegg leak" post. They say the 290x would be 800$. Someone mentioned it was only a place holder [as AMD should have strict NDA] and the Swedish site raised to price to 1577.90$.
We'll see on launch day what the price and performance is. Personally, I think a 299$ 280x doesn't warrant a 600$+ 290x card. They are just asking people to not buy their highest end card -- instead 2x7970, 2xR9-280x, 4x7950 (If the prices drop below 200$ again, add mantle, and profit), or a 780.
Besides, how is this any more reliable than any other rumor/leak? I can easily edit any page's html... And then again, why would they lie?
You must already be annoyed at nVidia for having a new line up with only one new card.
This is just insane pricing. When thinking about the release in europe, the will probably just change the $ into € and selling it for 699€ over here (=950$)...
I'm putting on my tinfoil hat. I think they are only "leaking" these prices for the press.
This link shows a price to be 7299 Swedish Krona. Does that number look familiar? The new egg site showed the price to be 729.99 USD. I'm thinking there is a connection, they probably signed some NDA that said to list the pre-orders for those prices (just to stir the peoples up) and when they go live, they will be cheaper!
I wouldn't. If it's priced at $50 then there's clearly something wrong with it lol. If not, don't really need that high end of a card. It would probably just be a drawback cause of heating issues.
