no it is resolved, but you need to have a distro with linux kernel >=4.9
then specific packages
xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu
firmware-amd-graphics
libdrm-amdgpu1
then reboot.

I will try this out.
yeah man, I literally just installed debian stretch 10 minutes ago and are using it with a AMD Fury with no problems.
I'll try it out with stretch as well, see if i get the same results.
good luck!
no luck. i had to install them to be able to boot to desktop but it gave me the same results as other distros without disabling dpm.
But as far as i can tell only the 390 and 390x has this issue.
You need the newest kernel possible. Manjaro boots into 4.6, 14.04 to 4.4, and 16.04 to 4.6 or 4.8. You want 4.9 and up. Try to get antergos running.
You could also try using nomodeset.
i have tried kernel 4.8 - 4.9 and 4.10
and i have tried nomodeset.
as per the guys at freedesktop the bug is when the gpu tried to switch from one powerstate to another automatically.
only way that i have seen someone get around it, is to set it manually at boot at one power state. and manually switching powestate as you need them.
damn.
See I had a 290 then upgraded to a 390 and used the powerstate fix. But once I had upgraded to 4.9 kernel I no longer had to do that.
So it is only specific to the 290/390 line?
this specific bug seems to be.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91880
have heard that some people have zero issues with it.
Hawaii lottery i guess
When I had my 390 I always left it on high
powerstate.
Mine seemed to kind of work when I manually set the power state but still got artifact ingredients under high stress.
the bug has been upped to high critical now so maybe they will eventually get around to fixing it.
daily use is kind of a hassle so I have been sticking with windows forever now.
And I am way to cheap to buy a new gpu since the hardware is working like it should and is fast enough for me.
If I find a solution that is better then manually setting the states or they patch it out. i will update the thread.
alright, sounds good man.
Thanks for following up with this.
