the new 9950 black edition is out and said to be more overclockable than the fomor quad king of amd the 9850, check it out if you are an amd fan
meh, if i run an amd system, its not for overclocking.
if i wanted to overclock id run an intel system.
yea lol but you know amd is great for multi. tasking. and running an amd system is much better for apps if nothing else. but gaming systems will grow with amd so more head room for overclocking just is a shout out for enthusiasts
so would this be a good buy for games such as crysis right now or are there going to be future cpu's from amd that will perform much better? im just debating whether i should buy the phenom 9950 right now or wait til amd releases their 45nm cpu's. i currently have a 5000+ BE and an asus M3A32
Well actually by next year AMD is going to release a new line of CPU's and socket, called AM3 for the 45nm's, but after those are release they are going to be releasing some 8 core chips. now i don't what socket those would be on, but if you can wait one than a year than wait for the 8 cores and not the 45nm's... but if you need something that can preform now and could stand it's grand for a good 2 years. go with the 9950. it's very overclockable with the right board. just gotta make sure you have a board that can handle 140wTDP, asus has some of those boards out now so check out new egg, just type in 8300 ASUS and should bring up a board for you. ^^b keep gaming
thanks for the advice... so would do you think an Asus M3A32 would be able to handle 140wTDP ? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131224 because it'd be silly to downgrade to a $100 mobo when i spent $220 for that one.
well that is a nice board in all, But try going with the MSI K9A2 Platinum. It's cheaper and overclocks better ^^b.
also let me make a note about the MSI K9A2 if you really want to the best out of it with a 9950 make sure you connect all three power cables to it, even the 4-pin molex :D you won't be disappointed
i dont get why the motherboard cant just use an 8-pin power connector instead of a 4-pin + molex
it's because most people don't have a 8-pin, so they look out for people, like some buys this board. and they have a 800w PSU that doesn't included a 8-pin just a 6-pin and 4-pin cpu connector they are like GEEZ!!! now i have to wait for the 2 molex to 8-pin converter or buy another PSU to get the full power of this. Instead they made it 1 4-pin and 1 4-pin molex just for those people. ^^b
ah i see 8-]
^^b hope you enjoyed my input & hope it helps you make your decision on your new system. Thank you
im most likely going to order the new phenom 9950 in the up coming weeks, but i think im fine with my motherboard because it almost seems like a downgrade to me, paying $220 for mine and then getting a $150 mobo that's almost exactly the same. also i like the asus layout a lot better, the q-shield, connectors etc... but thanks for the input
oh yeah no problem, lol I didn't know you actually owned the board X_x i thought you were looking into it lmao XD well if you own the board already than yeah stick your board bro :P i was suggesting it for a new build XD
