Would/Could something like 2 Opteron 4386 Seoul www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113323 or 2 Opteron 4334 Seoul www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113321 be used as a gaming CPU? Would the extra cores and L2/L3 cache help when it comes to gaming? How would one go about this? What would be the best motherboards to accept such a build/where would I get the mobo? Are there any single socket motherboards compatible with the 4300 series Opteron CPUs? And as more game utilize more CPU cores, could an Opteron such as the ones I've listed potentially be a viable choice for the future? I know its possible for Xeons to be used in such a build, but what about the Red Team?
strictly as a gaming CPU, the FX series offer a better value, and has a better motherboard selection, and allows for easy overclocking. Now, if have a frequent or even constant workload that needed a lot of multi-threaded horsepower, in addition to gaming, the opteron might be a good consideration. Otherwise, I wouldn't really recommend them as a gaming CPU.
So this build would be a good one?

Comes out to be just under/around $3000. Seems pretty powerful and with powerful graphical capabilities as well. Would get the job done...
The only resions to buy opterons is if you are makeing a server or a cpu folding rig the opterons have weak single core perfomance and a low clock speed and are missing a lot of newer cpu instruction set's.
Thay will be terrible for gameing but fantastic for folding/parallel computing.
please let me have the opteron sticker if u buy this
Haha sure thing... If I even had that much money. Speculative build right now, but oh so tempting.
you can do it.... I just don't know why anyone would do it.
Why not? 16 cores, maybe switch out the 780ti for a couple AMD FirePro graphics and you've got a sliiiiiick rendering/editing rig.
Rather buy a 8 core/16 thread Xeon for a little more and get better core performance. Plus you can just get a single socket Lga 2011 motherboard and probably save some money there.
right, it would make a good RENDERING machine, you asked specifically about gaming, in which case it's a horrible choice
