my advice, with the reps and warranties today, get a toshiba hdd, they have lower failrate then wd or seagate, and retail drives get you 3 years....seagate is 1 year....yeah 1, I use to be a HUGE seagate fan, but they have really turned me off with their 1 year warranty even for 3+tb drives....
Man, I have to say I love WD HDD's, they run great and warranty support is fantastic.
I had a 700gb caviar black go bad with random boot issues, this was 3-4 years old, I searched the serial number to check if it was still under warranty, it was, I had 2 options to get a replacement sent to me for free, 1, I send them the drive, they verify to see if the drive really failed, and send me a new one, or 2, I give them a credit card number and they send me a replacement drive of equal or better value, I did 2 and got a 1 Terabyte replacement with performance better than what I sent them. Just to be sure I called them about it, they told me it's how they keep customers, they feel very strongly about their products. I say stick with WD.
