Too lazy to watch 40 min video. Did they give any performance numbers?
+1
Let's see some real world usage.
Video doesn't work for me. Anyone else getting "Error Occured try again" message?
Nope... Works fine for me
I wanted to see Mantle actually in use... But it was a nice reassurance that it might actually be good.
Mantle + Kavari might make budget console killers possible.
Cool stuff! :)
While I'm not a dev and will freely admit that some of what was explained was over my head, I did understand the overall concepts of what they are trying to do.
Was particularly blown away at the level of performance improvements they're aiming for. Was not expecting that.
One thing I found very interesting is the optimization in running multiple GPU's which would no longer have to be of the same GPU family or performance level. This will be really beneficial to those building budget gaming systems with APU's and later adding a more powerful discreet GPU. Instead of disabling the integrated GPU, they can now make use of it by off-loading some of the work to the iGPU, allowing the discreet GPU to run even faster than it otherwise would run doing all the work on it's own. The iGPU would no longer drag down the discreet GPU in trying to split the work 50/50, but instead help boost performance by doing certain specific tasks for the discreet GPU.
Very curious to see some real-world demos and see this in action. :)
At 2:20 "...and possibly, even, allow our competitor's hardware to be supported with Mantle."
How nice of them.
what the hell is he saying right before per frame at 7:07
"once you render so many charcoals it becomes a butt hole lick"
I've been waiting for a technology like this for a long time. Glad to see it is finally going to be implemented. I wonder if it will cause problems like stuttering and screen tearing like crossfire did. I hope it works out well, this could really give PC's an edge over consoles.
Mantle with 8350 downclocked to 2Ghz and r9 290x was beating core i7 4770k with 290x (DX11).
Also Kaveri was running BF4 medium settings 25-35fps at 1080p.
i think this is gonna be a real game changer in utilization of CPU/GPU. 20-40% more gpu performance, and less stress on CPU. Like oscar said, they downclocked to 2Ghz and we're able to go without bottlenecking on all 8 cores. I'd like to see an OC @ 4.7Ghz with an OC'd 290x on watercooling.
Or just a stock cooler for cpu and only watercool the GPU? Bwhahaha.
